- Staff Psychologist
Kathryn completed her B.A. in Psychology from Indiana University Southeast and her M.A. and Psy.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology from Spalding University in Louisville, KY. She has a passion for working with college students given the unique opportunities for psychological growth that arise in a learning environment. She has completed training positions in several college counseling centers including The University of New Hampshire, New York University, and Spalding University in Louisville, KY. For nine years, she served as a staff psychologist in the Center for Student Health and Psychological Services at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. She has worked with students experiencing a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, body image, self-esteem, and substance abuse. She enjoys assisting students in moving from points of crisis to feeling empowered to manage their situation. Kathryn enjoys serving on committees to foster positive change at a campus wide level and has worked with affirmative action, suicide prevention, and harm reduction committees in those efforts. She has a special interest in serving LGBT populations and has lead lesbian identity groups and workshops for lesbian couples, facilitated wrap sessions for LGBT students, and has served as a liaison between the counseling center and LGBT student groups.
Kathryn approaches clinical work from a psychodynamic perspective and finds self-psychology, object relations, and relational theories most useful in her treatment conceptualizations. She incorporates an eclectic treatment approach using predominately relational, cognitive behavioral, and mindfulness techniques in collaboration with the client. Kathryn spent her post-doctoral year at Women’s Therapy Center in Philadelphia where she expanded her understanding of feminist therapy and her appreciation for the empowerment of the client in her or his own therapy process. She believes that the client is the expert in her or his healing journey.
Kathryn is excited to be rejoining the Counseling Center staff at UNH as a staff member. She is looking forward to expanded opportunities to provide clinical supervision and to continue advancing her understanding of relational and cultural-relational theories.
