- Post-Doctoral Fellow
Josh was born in Maine and has spent most of his life in New England. He attended Bowdoin College and graduated in 2003 with a B.A. in Psychology and Biology. He earned his PhD at the University of Illinois, where he also received his Master’s. Last year, Josh completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Counseling Center here at UNH.
Josh has worked with diverse student concerns in his clinical work at the counseling centers of the University of Illinois and Illinois State University, which encouraged him to continue working with college students. His dissertation focused on the coping habits of LGBT students experiencing stress in college and how the choice of coping behaviors impacts outcomes over time. He has served as a teaching assistant for courses in counseling theories, educational psychology and early adolescent development.
Josh prefers to take an integrative perspective in his therapy, combining techniques from cognitive-behavioral, humanistic and interpersonal approaches. He has worked with students struggling with a variety of concerns such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, career-related concerns and more. Some of his outreach work included being the head of the workshop committee for the Midwest Bisexual Lesbian Gay Transgender Ally College Conference (MBLGTACC) in 2008. In his free time Josh enjoys swimming, biking, camping, kayaking, hiking, and just relaxing with a book on his porch overlooking the river.
