Community Involvement
We believe the role of the university counseling center is multi-faceted. We see ourselves as specialists in developmental, clinical/remedial and preventative interventions with adolescents and young adults. We aim to serve the community while being part of the community. As part of the community we are accessible to and familiar with our constituents. In addition, as community members with specialized training in working with the university population, we are knowledgeable about the special needs of students, faculty, staff, and the systems of which we are a part. One of our core values pertains to issues related to diversity and social justice. To this end, we work towards creating a safe and healthy environment where all of our community members feel welcome, accepted, and empowered to express their individual and group uniqueness in service of their academic and personal goals. Consistent with this view of the role of a university counseling center and university counseling center psychologists, the UNH CC staff has built and maintains relationships with both individual and organizational community members. In preparing interns to develop and utilize these relationships in their professional work and fulfill their role as agents of change, we’ve identified events that will foster relationship building and increased understanding of the university community of which we are all part. Interns are required to participate in the following “Highlighted Events”:
